Alright, I know this isn’t wedding related in any way, shape, or form, but I am too excited not to post about this. It was announced today that Sidney Crosby, the Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, my Pittsburgh Penguins, is coming back tomorrow. A la Mario Lemieux, my idol, this is Sidney’s Comeback. Everything in Crosby’s career will be measure in pre and post concussion however unfair that is, that will be the way. The Pens will face the Islanders, the team that ended his point streak last year, one game before the Winter Classic where David Steckel ran an unsuspecting Crosby over and most likely started this concussion ball rolling. The hit would certainly be a suspension under the current head-shot rules. The next game, January 5th vs the Lightning, Victor Hedman hit Crosby from behind on a seemingly uneventful play. Crosby’s head hit the glass and he was visibly shaken. That was just the start of the problems for Sidney. Concussions can effect different people in different ways and Sidney has taken a long painful roller coaster ride to recovery. We all hope the the league’s premiere player can stay healthy and lead his Penguins the way he did before the injury. With Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL’s other big superstar, playing poorly, the game needs Sidney to come back and be Sidney Crosby.
For me, I just hope he can come back into the Penguins lineup and add a little sizzle to a team that has been performing well without him. It will take a little time to get back into the swing of things I’m sure, so be patient people. I’m not expecting the world from him just yet. The whole hockey world will be watching and hoping for the best. It’s a good thing he’s experienced with dealing with the media because this is going to be a carnival.
Since I moved to Halifax I’ve seen Crosby Jersey’s and Penguins logos everything, and that’s without him playing, I’m sure his return will increase the interest of local hockey fans.
Here are a few photos from the trip Robyn and I took to see the Penguins play in Columbus last year, and that is wedding related. Robyn’s gift to me for our wedding was tickets to this game, one that the penguins won big and Crosby played well, scoring twice.
